What is a Continuing Care Community?

Peace of Mind for Today and Tomorrow

Continuing Care Communities (CCC) can offer peace of mind for today and tomorrow by removing uncertainties about the future. Sometimes referred to as life plan communities, this unique and comprehensive approach to senior living offers a range of living options all in one location so that you or your loved one can transition seamlessly from independent living to assisted living, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation within the same community.

Someren Glen offers a unique monthly rental plan with no upfront entrance fee.

Access to Care from Your Home & Community

Should the need arise, being a part of a Continuing Care Community provides you priority access to additional living options. As your needs change over time, you won’t need to uproot your life or make difficult decisions about where to move next. You will be able to stay in your community and experience the peace of mind of knowing you have the option to live the rest of your life in one familiar place.

Continuing Care Communities can be an optimal choice for couples as well. You are able to remain close to your spouse or partner, should either of you experience a change in your healthcare needs, without the added stress of moving.

Unlike most CCCs, Someren Glen does not require a large entrance fee which is attractive to many families and budgets. This means that while residents will get priority for higher levels of support if they are needed, financial contributions are needed to secure the additional support. Someren Glen’s skilled nursing neighborhood accepts Medicaid in the event that a resident exhausts their finances.

Benefits of Continuing Care Communities

Many of us feel vibrant, capable, and comfortable in our own environment – one that we have created over the years. But the truth is, there is a good chance that many of us will need additional support at some point in our journey through aging. Someone turning 65 today has almost a 70% chance of needing some type of long-term care in their remaining years, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. While there are many options to receive care, a continuing care community can offer additional support when and if you need it while also providing the familiar surroundings of home.

Another good reason to consider a continuing care community is that people are generally happier and healthier. A recent 5-year study showed that residents of community care communities tended to have greater emotional, social, physical, intellectual, and vocational wellness than a similar group who did not live in a continuing care community. The study also found that residents’ health and wellness “compared favorably” to those who did not live in a continuing care community.

  • Life Plan Community residents self-reported significantly more healthy behaviors in Year 1.
  • 69% of residents reported that moving to a Life Plan Community “somewhat or greatly improved” their social wellness in Year 1.
